 Educational Tour June 9 - June 19, 2005

Thursday June 9th 2005

   Departure from the U.S.A. for England. Your overnight flight includes dinner, continental breakfast and in-flight entertainment for your journey. World Travel Consultants can arrange your flight from your nearest home city. (Note: Airfare is not included in the basic tour cost). 

Friday June 10th 2005

   Arrive in London this morning.   For those arriving at Heathrow Airport by 9:00 am, transportation will be provided to the hotel by bus with a 'Blue Badge' guide. Prior to check-in enjoy  a three hour panoramic tour of London. The guide will remain with the group until check-in. 

   Lunch and afternoon at leisure.  

    Welcome drinks party at the hotel. 

   Overnight at Thistle Westminster Hotel, London.   Drinks Party.

Saturday June 11th 2005

   This morning stroll across Green Park to watch the TROOPING THE COLOUR.   The hotel is within walking distance of Buckingham Palace. If possible seats will be obtained to watch the ceremony at additional cost.   HM The Queen and members of the Royal Family attend this ceremony, which commemorates the official birthday of Her Majesty The Queen.

   This is an amazing spectacle, showing the best of  British pomp and ceremony!

   Lunch and afternoon at leisure.

   Evening at leisure.

   Overnight at Thistle Westminster Hotel, London.   Full English Breakfast.

Sunday June 12th 2005

   Day at leisure.

    A special optional activity may be offered at additional cost.

   Overnight at the Thistle Westminster Hotel, London.   Full English Breakfast.

Monday June 13th 2005

    A private coach will pick up the group at the Hotel.

    A guide accompanies the group for a visit to RUNNYMEDE, the site of the sealing of the Magna Charta.

    A three course pub lunch has been arranged in Windsor.

    The GARTER DAY is traditionally held at Windsor Castle on the Monday following the Trooping of the Colour. This annual ceremony of the Most Noble Order of the Garter consists of the Garter Procession of the Sovereign, Companions and Officers of the Order and the Garter Service of Thanksgiving. Members of The Friends of St George’s may apply individually for a ticket expressing a preference to sit in the Chapel and attend the Service, to sit in the Stand and view the Procession or stand on the Lawn and view the Procession; also for a Badge to attend the Garter Tea afterwards in the Vicars’ Hall – all subject to availability.  (The Service is broadcast outside.)

    Those seeking membership of The Society should apply as soon as possible to The Honorary Secretary, The Friends of St George’s Chapel, I The Cloisters, Windsor Castle, SL4 1NJ, United Kingdom

     Those not viewing the procession may tour Eton College for a modest additional charge.

    Return to London for dinner at leisure.

Tuesday June 14th 2005 - Friday June 17th 2005 (4 days)

    Drive to Lincoln for four days when we will have the services of a guide and bus.

    We will travel by bus to spend one day at York for Royal Ascot, one day by bus to Chatsworth House and two days in Lincoln. The specific days will depend on the activities scheduled for Lincoln. The Ascot Race Meeting is scheduled from Tuesday through to Saturday.

    Royal Ascot Vouchers must be individually arranged with contact information available. Lunch and dinner on the day of Ascot is not included. Presently, the cost of the entrance to Chatsworth is included in the cost of the tour with lunch at leisure. The cost of an evening reception at the home of the Dean of Lincoln, a dinner in Lincoln and tours in Lincoln are included in the cost of the Tour. Breakfast is included each day.

    Additional descriptions of the activities:

    ROYAL ASCOT DAY.

   You are driven from the hotel by bus to the Races at York, dressed of course, in  top hat and tails for the gentlemen and wonderful hats for the ladies.

   You will  be able to experience the rich pageantry and excitement of the ROYAL ASCOT RACES where one can observe Royalty and see Her Majesty the Queen and her family  walking around amongst the other guests. Those with letters of entrance will be able to go into the Royal Enclosure. [Note: to apply for letters of entrance please contact the Society Office].

    Following the races we are planning for dinner at leisure in York.

   CHATSWORTH HOUSE is the home of the Duchess of Devonshire

    The two additional days in Lincoln include a ground tour of the Cathedral, a roof tour of the Cathedral, a visit to the Magna Charta in the Castle and a tour of the library with a lecture from the librarian, Dr. Nicholas Bennett, on Magna Carta in Lincoln and its effects nationally.  The Lecture will form part of their Magna Carta Week. In addition, there will be a Reception in the Deanery and a Gala Dinner within the Cathedral.

 Overnight at the Lincoln Hotel, Lincoln (4 nights).   Full English Breakfast each day, reception, gala dinner and entrance fees.

Saturday June 18th 2005

   This morning return to London.

    Lunch and dinner at leisure.

   Overnight at the Thistle Westminster Hotel, London.   Full English Breakfast.

Sunday June 19th 2005

   Departure Day!   Full English Breakfast. Transfer to Heathrow Airport for your return flight home.   Bon Voyage!
